  1. Hi, I was doing some family history research. When I went to see a family plot, I noticed this on the headstone (see link below. You may need to copy & paste in a new window) This is my great grandmother’s grave & headstone. I noticed that one her sons was lost on the Lusitania. I had a look of the ship’s manifest, on the site, and couldn’t locate him. Please can you help?

        • My grandfather was a steward on RMS Lusitania and survived the sinking – rescuing someone, but was wounded during the attack. His name was: Joseph McDermott. He had worked on the White Star Line in Canada when it ran the Canadian-Pacific railway. I cannot find his name on your records, and suspect he may have registered with a false name. Any comments please?

  2. Hello-

My Mother told me her Grandmother’s sister was lost on the Lusitania. Her name was Catherine Irvine and she was from the Crosby/Waterloo area of Merseyside. My mother believes she was a Stewardess.

Sorry I have no further info.

    very interesting site, Beautiful ship.

  3. When I was in Japan during the early 90s, I seem to remember seeing several graves of Lusitania victims at a cemetery near Yokohama. Are there victims buried there or am I just remembering incorrectly?

    Jim

  4. Thanks–that makes sense. I seem to remember more than one marker, but it has been a “few days” since I was there… It struck me as odd that there would be a memorial/graves there 1) due to the distance and 2) I thought the victims were all European/American. Thanks for the info and I love the site!

    Jim

  5. Hi, I found a Margaret MacKenzie commemorated on the war memorials in Shieldaig and in Torridon as having been drowned on the Lusitania. When I looked her up on the ship’s manifest, however, I couldn’t find her. Any suggestions??

  6. In researching the history of my building in Brooklyn, NY, which was a garage, the daughters of the owner were supposed to have drowned on the Lusitania. There first names were Catherine and Elisabeth. I found no Americans on the list of victims. Were there no Americans on the ship when it went down?

    • What were their last names? That would help in looking for who these sisters are. Yes, there were Americans on the ship. The passenger, crew, survivors, and victims lists have Americans on them, but they are labeled as “United States Citizens” or USA on this site, as “American” is also a general term for people from North and South America.

  7. From: David Potterton

My father William Potterton, born in 1900, was a cabin boy on the Lusitania. He was one of the survivors when the ship went down. However, his name does not appear on any of your lists. Were cabin boys not listed as members of the crew?

    • Hi in my documents i found a Thomas McCormack..age 30-3rd class pass/ James McCormack – fireman with the Crew-Engineers (missing) and a Donald McCormack Crew survivor. .assistant telegraphist..deck dept.
      Hope this was helpful.

      Regards rob

  8. Hi, spend a lot of time on here and find it extremely useful, I would like to ask a question though.

I research a choir that my great grandfather was in, several members of which were on the Lusitania, and a few that lost their lives. None of them are recorded as being “recovered”, and I have spent a long time trying to find their death records without any joy.

How was the situation dealt with regarding death certificates for those who were no recovered? Were they issued?

  9. Hi my Grand farther was a second waiter who survived and also served on the sister ship Mauritania. THOMAS Mr. John Saved Victualling Crew British Second Waiter

  10. Hello. I have been told there was an actress on baord the Lusitania, she would have been in the first class, saloon section. Is this true? I believe she was said to be American.

  11. My great uncle, Christopher Garry, was on the ship, lost his life and was apparently never recovered. My mother has letters which refer to Christopher. Currently reading the Erik Larson book, Dead Wake, in which Christopher Garry is referred to as Christ Garry. Mr. Larson treats this rather irreverently in the book which doesn’t please either my mother or me. Regardless, the book is fascinating to read and I’m finding this website very interesting and informative.

  12. Was there a Harry Cole of the U.S.Army on board the Lusitania? He is my great uncle and I was told by my cousin today that he survived by treading water. He was a strong athlete.
    Margaret Miller

    • Hi Margaret, yes i have found a Mr Cole under (CREW MISSING: ENGINEERING DEPT…..Cole, W. H)….i think its possible this is NOT your great uncle as this mr cole is listed as 2nd Int. 3rd Engineer and you say he was in US army.

      Regards rob.

  13. I would love to find out more about John McEneaney(Jack) described as being 23 when he perished at sea on the Lusitania. My mother Patricia McEneaney was not born until 1926 but she and my Uncle Hugh McEneaney often talked about their brother being on the ship. Hugh took a particular interest in Uncle Jack and the Lusitania until his death in 2006.I would be particularly interested in John`s life in New York from where he was travelling home when he perished at sea.

    • Hi Eugene,
I believe John was my grandmother’s uncle. If this is the same person I do have some info of what happened to him while in New York. If you are interested let me know.

    • Hi Eugene, I believe John is a common ancestor between us. He was my Grandmother’s uncle, and John’s perish on the Lusitania was just family legend unit I did some searching into it. His older sister Annie McEneaney is my great grandmother and together they lived in New York.

  14. Wondering if AJ Greenshields is a relative? Not much information about him. Would there be any church burial records? I have relatives from Scotland.

    • Hi rob here. Sorry i have taken so long…AJ Greenshields (t/c) passenger..buried queenstown, 18th May; grave B, 4th row upper tier-property-none…

Hope this was useful and not upsetting for you. I will trawl through my docs and see if anymore comes to light.

      Rob

  15. In doing some genealogy, I found listed in my family a relative named Ida Amelia McBride Johnston, who died on May 7, 1915 on the Lusitania. I could not find her on the crew and passenger list. Do you have any info on her?

  16. Hi, my grandfather was a cabin boy on the Lusitania when it was torpedoed
Happily he did live to tell the tale.
He has no mention on the list of crew and passengers, his name was George Dickeson, he would have been around 15 years old,
Would there be any reason I can’t find his name on the list ?
    Many thanks

  17. I am researching names of family members who travelled on lusitania on fateful voyage. Family members recall them but am unable to fin on passenger lists. They were greek migrants who were returning to Greece/Europe. The of those drowned were :names are Efthimiadis Stefanos, Antoniadis Ignatios Dimkopoulos Dimitris. Survivors were : Georgopoulos Giannis and Andreades (christian name not known) Could they have travelled and not be on any list? They were all males travelling alone.

  18. Hi, I am looking for a friends relative who survived, her name was Rosie and her daughter ( who was a baby at the time) named Blanch. Any help please?
    Thanks

  19. On the survivors list there is a Miss Elizabeth Rogers (Sister of Sarah Fish) age unknown. Under Fish there is Sadie Eileen Fish aged 10 and a Marion Enid Fish aged 8. Are these both sisters of Elizabeth Rogers or not related at all? My great grandmother was Catherine Leipold, I thought the tales was that she was escorting two children back to England.

  20. Some time ago I came across Jay Anderson name of my Grandmothers first husband who perished when the Lusitania was torpedoed Now I cannot locate his name on the list ?

  21. Hello we recently discovered my gran-uncle was on board and was lost. His name is Andrew Mangan not Manan as on the excel sheet. He was 19 when he died but as he lied about his age, many thought he was 22. Andrew was from Co Clare in Ireland but had moved to Liverpool. We found his details at the Tower Hill Memorial but do not know anything further about him. He was a Trimmer…. not sure what that entailed.

  22. Hi, I’m the great-granddaughter of William Lake (Liverpool) who died on the Lusitania. My father migrated to the US when he was 21, around 1950. If anyone has information about him or other family members I would like to know. My father doesn’t have a lot if information on his grandfather’s side of the family

  23. Hi, my great, great uncle William Bennet was a third class passenger on the ship. I know he was lost, he’s listed as body no. 9, yet when I look at the manifest, body.no. 9 is not him. Was his body not recovered?

My Nana, who was a Bennet, lost a cousin on the Titanic also. I did find her name on the list of those lost.

    Thanks

    Denise
