Hi, I was doing some family history research. When I went to see a family plot, I noticed this on the headstone (see link below. You may need to copy & paste in a new window) This is my great grandmother’s grave & headstone. I noticed that one her sons was lost on the Lusitania. I had a look of the ship’s manifest, on the site, and couldn’t locate him. Please can you help?
Richard Wareing (b.1863-1915)

Many thanks,
Best wishes

Richard Wareing is on this list as Weaving. He is on the Tower Hill memorial in the correct spelling
Hi Darren and Jan,
Both the spreadsheet and the crew list should be corrected. Can you tell us more about your great-uncle?
Hello-
My Mother told me her Grandmother’s sister was lost on the Lusitania. Her name was Catherine Irvine and she was from the Crosby/Waterloo area of Merseyside. My mother believes she was a Stewardess.
Sorry I have no further info.
very interesting site, Beautiful ship.
I do have a “Catherine Irving” listed on the crew list. Perhaps this is her? Is Irving an incorrect spelling? Please let us know.
Hi i found a miss catherine irvine …stewardess…crew missing. Thats all i have to go on sorry. Regards rob
When I was in Japan during the early 90s, I seem to remember seeing several graves of Lusitania victims at a cemetery near Yokohama. Are there victims buried there or am I just remembering incorrectly?
Jim
There is a Lusitania memorial in a cemetery in Yokohama, although I doubt the bodies would have been transferred there due to the distance. This is one Lusitania passenger who is memorialized in Yokohama: http://www.rmslusitania.info/people/saloon/alick-scott/
Thanks–that makes sense. I seem to remember more than one marker, but it has been a “few days” since I was there… It struck me as odd that there would be a memorial/graves there 1) due to the distance and 2) I thought the victims were all European/American. Thanks for the info and I love the site!
Jim
Hi, I found a Margaret MacKenzie commemorated on the war memorials in Shieldaig and in Torridon as having been drowned on the Lusitania. When I looked her up on the ship’s manifest, however, I couldn’t find her. Any suggestions??
Margaret MacKenzie was recently married when she boarded the Lusitania. Her married name was Margaret Shineman.
Hi there I’m rob from liverpool. I have documents here passed down from a relative and I can tell you…James shineman husband of Margaret was buried at kilt rolling graveyard, carrigaholt, co.clarejuly 20th…..property sent to mother-in-law Mrs D Mckenzie, Shieldaig, by Lochcarron. Nov 25th
I have more info if you would like to know more.
Hi im rob. I have records of mr and mrs shineman (Margaret and James) nee; m. Mckenzie
In researching the history of my building in Brooklyn, NY, which was a garage, the daughters of the owner were supposed to have drowned on the Lusitania. There first names were Catherine and Elisabeth. I found no Americans on the list of victims. Were there no Americans on the ship when it went down?
What were their last names? That would help in looking for who these sisters are. Yes, there were Americans on the ship. The passenger, crew, survivors, and victims lists have Americans on them, but they are labeled as “United States Citizens” or USA on this site, as “American” is also a general term for people from North and South America.
Looking for Ella Markins who went with “her lady” on board a ship, maybe Lusitania?
From: David Potterton
My father William Potterton, born in 1900, was a cabin boy on the Lusitania. He was one of the survivors when the ship went down. However, his name does not appear on any of your lists. Were cabin boys not listed as members of the crew?
Hi there. Was there a John McCormack on the Lusitania? He was an Irish tenor who had just appeared at Carnegie Hall. I saw a Donald McCormack listed as a survivor, but no John.
Hi in my documents i found a Thomas McCormack..age 30-3rd class pass/ James McCormack – fireman with the Crew-Engineers (missing) and a Donald McCormack Crew survivor. .assistant telegraphist..deck dept.
Hope this was helpful.
Regards rob
Hi everyone I have very important documents here and have mr and mrs Shineman/Mckenzie. Regards Rob.
Hi, spend a lot of time on here and find it extremely useful, I would like to ask a question though.
I research a choir that my great grandfather was in, several members of which were on the Lusitania, and a few that lost their lives. None of them are recorded as being “recovered”, and I have spent a long time trying to find their death records without any joy.
How was the situation dealt with regarding death certificates for those who were no recovered? Were they issued?
Hi my Grand farther was a second waiter who survived and also served on the sister ship Mauritania. THOMAS Mr. John Saved Victualling Crew British Second Waiter
Hi David, yes according to these records your Grand farther is listed under …CREW SURVIVORS –STEWARDS DEPARTMENT.
regards rob.
Hello. I have been told there was an actress on baord the Lusitania, she would have been in the first class, saloon section. Is this true? I believe she was said to be American.
My great uncle, Christopher Garry, was on the ship, lost his life and was apparently never recovered. My mother has letters which refer to Christopher. Currently reading the Erik Larson book, Dead Wake, in which Christopher Garry is referred to as Christ Garry. Mr. Larson treats this rather irreverently in the book which doesn’t please either my mother or me. Regardless, the book is fascinating to read and I’m finding this website very interesting and informative.
Was there a Harry Cole of the U.S.Army on board the Lusitania? He is my great uncle and I was told by my cousin today that he survived by treading water. He was a strong athlete.
Margaret Miller
Hi Margaret, yes i have found a Mr Cole under (CREW MISSING: ENGINEERING DEPT…..Cole, W. H)….i think its possible this is NOT your great uncle as this mr cole is listed as 2nd Int. 3rd Engineer and you say he was in US army.
Regards rob.
I would love to find out more about John McEneaney(Jack) described as being 23 when he perished at sea on the Lusitania. My mother Patricia McEneaney was not born until 1926 but she and my Uncle Hugh McEneaney often talked about their brother being on the ship. Hugh took a particular interest in Uncle Jack and the Lusitania until his death in 2006.I would be particularly interested in John`s life in New York from where he was travelling home when he perished at sea.
My great grandfather, Thomas Sandals, was a 2nd class passenger who did survive. Do you have any information on him?
My great gran uncle was a cabin boy on the Lusitania. Is there any record of him?His name was Richard Kinsella
Wondering if AJ Greenshields is a relative? Not much information about him. Would there be any church burial records? I have relatives from Scotland.
Hi rob here. Sorry i have taken so long…AJ Greenshields (t/c) passenger..buried queenstown, 18th May; grave B, 4th row upper tier-property-none…
Hope this was useful and not upsetting for you. I will trawl through my docs and see if anymore comes to light.
Rob
