Miss Margaret Druller Jones

Margaret Jones, 44, was a British national residing in the Territory of Hawaii (now State of Hawaii), United States. She was lost in the Lusitania disaster.

Margaret Jones was born on 25 July 1871, the daughter of Benjamin Jones and Elizabeth Jones (nee Flintoff). She had two sisters, Jane and Mary. The family lived at 13 Dagmar Road, Hackney, London. Margaret’s father was a commercial traveler.

She left Hawaii aboard the steamship Lurline, which was also carrying future Lusitania passenger Mary Wakefield. The ship arrived in San Francisco, California, United States, on 21 April 1915. She would go across the United States to board Lusitania in New York City on 1 May.

Margaret’s ticket aboard Lusitania was 46093 and she stayed in cabin D-29. She was lost with the Lusitania disaster. Her body was recovered, #89. She is buried in Common Grave A of the Old Church Cemetery in Cobh (formerly Queenstown), Ireland.

Margaret’s sister Jane, unmarried as of 1915, lived in Honolulu, Hawaii Territory. Another sister, Mrs. Mary Lukes, lived in Bradford, Ontario, Canada, with their mother, Elizabeth Jones.

    There is a memorial to Margaret in North Allerton Cemetery on a family tombstone which reads:

    Erected in affectionate remembrance of George, only son of Christopher and Jane FLINTOFF who died May 18 1875 aged 37 years.
    Also of Margaret Druller JONES, niece of the above who lost her life in the Lusitania disaster. Interred at Queenstown May 10 1915 aged 43 years.
    Also Christopher William JONES of Prince Rupert B C 1st Canadian Pioneers. Killed in action Flanders, November the 11 1917 aged 52 years.
