Mrs. Thomas Bodell (Florence Saunders)

Florence Bodell (née Saunders), 36, her husband Thomas, and son Thomas, Jr. of 21 Macaulay Ave, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, left to take a holiday in England.  Thomas was a partner in the Stanley Brass Works, Dufferin Street.  Florence was the sister of Frank Saunders, the Bloor Street florist.  The family was lost in the sinking.

  1. I am trying to determine if Florence is my great grandmother’s sister who died on the Lusitania. The info I have is that she was the youngest of 11 Saunders children (some born in England, others in Ontario) and one of the children (Kate) died at age 1. The spelling of her name is Florance and her birthdate was Nov. 15, 1884, born in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. She also had a brother Frank, born Sept. 4, 1880 at Winchmerehill, Hertes. Possibly coincidentally, my info is written on a sheet of paper from W.J. Lawrence, florist in Mimico, Ont. Any additional info or verification is appreciated. Thank you.

    • Lynn, I too am related to this family. My great grandmother Rosa Saunders Richardson was Florence’s sister. Who was your great grandmother sister?

  2. I didn’t receive notice of a reply here, but I think we are related! There was a sister named Rosa, born 12-18-1868. My great grandmother was Clara, born 10-7-1882. There was a first born Caleb, then John, Rosa, Albert, Fredrich, Minnie, Kate, Thomas William, Frank, Clara, and Florance. Their parents were John Saunders and Elizabeth Partridge.
