With the world in lockdown mode and all of us being unable to gather on site in either Liverpool, England, or at the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland, the Merseyside Maritime Museum and the Old Head of Kinsale Signal Tower have made their own videos to help us remember the Lusitania disaster and all those who were on board when the ship sank on 7 May 1915.

These videos, including the original “countdown clock” to the day and hour of the sinking, will remain on the front page through the end of May.

While it is unfortunate that we were not able to gather in person this year, I hope this year’s online commemoration will be able to open up future commemorations to being streamed or uploaded online afterwards so websurfers and students of the Lusitania tragedy can also take part if they cannot spend the time or money to fly to Ireland or the United Kingdom to be there in person.

Updates

In keeping with doing more consistent but more low-key updates, in the past week I’ve been polishing some new stuff that has been added to the site for those of you who might have done a little more browsing through the contents.

What’s new

For passenger and crew biographies, italics indicate survivor.

New images

The US National Archives has actually been a wealth of information, where I’ve been able to find images in the public domain. Some (but not all) selections from the Library of Congress have also come into the public domain, especially if they were published long ago by a defunct company.

Ships

As the biographies are the backbone of this site, the updates will be mostly focused on them, though from time to time there may be updates to sections on the ship, lifeboats, rescue vessels, and the like. I will also be looking at previous requests for updates, but with managing my job and other duties, updates will remain small and slow, but hopefully consistent. Therefore, if you have any updates that you’d like to make on a biography, please send in the request. Thank you!
