7 September 1907 marks RMS Lusitania‘s 118th maiden voyage anniversary, the day she departed Liverpool for New York.
I’d like to remember the Lusitania as she was, when everyone was excited to see the world’s newest largest and fastest liner. These photos today are from the Library of Congress.

The above photo is titled: “The Lusitania at end of record voyage.” Is this what Manhattan’s Pier 54 looked like in 1907? The pier looks very different now, but you can see the tracks on the right, where the High Line is today. Where the ship is is now the funny little island park.
This photo is merely titled: “Lusitania.” It’s interesting to see the color scale above and below the picture used to make sure the picture was developed correctly.
This one, also just called “Lusitania,” may have been previously published here (or not). I just remember the crease in the middle. Though AI technology could fix that crease now.
Interestingly, this one, titled “Mauretania” is the same image, flipped. It probably takes someone who knows ocean liners (and not a general archivist) to be able to tell that they recycled a picture, as seen often with the Olympic and Titanic.
