Mr. Alexander Duncan, Junior Second Engineer

Alex Duncan was the Junior Second Engineer aboard the Lusitania for her final crossing. He survived the Lusitania sinking.

Duncan later became Chief Officer of the Berengaria, formerly the German ship known as Imperator, that replaced Lusitania on Cunard’s North Atlantic run.

In 1935, Duncan attended a crew reunion held in commemoration of the Lusitania‘s 20th sinking anniversary in New York City. The reunion was hosted by former Senior Third Officer John Idwal Lewis, who was now-captain and assistant marine superintendent of the Cunard-White Star Line. Also in attendance were Richard Wylie, since then promoted to assistant marine engineer of the Cunard-White Star Line; William Ewart Gladstone Jones, since then promoted to chief engineer of the Scythia; and Albert Charles Dunn, since then promoted to chief engineer of the Bantria. They drank a silent toast to their shipmates who were lost in the Lusitania sinking.
